When Cari and I heard the apocalypse was supposed to happen on Saturday, it spawned the question: what do we want to eat for what could be our last dinner on Friday night?
We decided that, as much as we loved pizza at Piola when we lived in DC, we didn't want the Houston location to leave a bad taste in our mouth at the end of the world.
Fortunately, we're still here. And you get to see pictures!!!
We went ahead and ordered the Moderna again. This was our favorite from DC and the same pizza that we had a bad experience with. The Moderna has tomato sauce, fresh arugula, tomatoes and shaved grana padano cheese. We usually add prosciutto but didn't this time for some reason.
They got it right this time! The big gripe from last time was that they put spinach on instead of arugula, but they did not make that mistake again. The pizza came out piping hot. The ingredients were fresh and tasted just like we remembered. The arugula gives the Moderna that snap when you take a bite that makes this pizza so delicious.
We also had a caprese salad that was quite good. It came with seven tomato slices covered with fresh mozzarella and basil. This was great with some balsamic vinegar on top, and was quite a bit of mozzarella for $8.
I had a feeling that Piola just had to work out some kinks. I'm glad that I gave Piola another shot, and they didn't let me down. We'll put them back in our regular pizza rotation.
